On the day prior to school returning, Mudgeeraba Uniting hosted a special service of blessing for the whole school community, which was very well received. Children were encouraged to return or begin school with confidence, and parents and grandparents were invited to stand with their children as we prayed a blessing over them and all local families.
Teachers from several local schools attended and prior to blessing them we were reminded of the high regard the community has for teachers. According to research by Roy Morgan teachers are consistently near the top in terms of ethics and honesty. See the results for 2017. We honoured the teachers for their commitment, and prayed a blessing over them, including administration and support staff.
Finally, we blessed and recommissioned our local school chaplains (chappies), three of whom we financially and prayerfully support as part of our local community outreach. In doing so, we reminded the chappies of their responsibilities, and drew attention to Jesus, our role model, who himself could be described as a ‘Chappy’ by showing compassion to the vulnerable, offering support to all who needed it, and taking time to bless the children.
At ‘recess’ we invited everyone to morning tea, assuring teachers there would be no ‘playground duty’! We plan to make this an annual tradition.
